A cloud as a metaphor for the internet is an interesting one. As if we are submitting our pictures and documents to a non-existent entity in the sky.
When I'm not doing school work and using my record player as my source for music, I am generally on the cloud via my iphone. I'll usually send a stupid picture of one of my dogs up to the cloud on instagram, like someones facebook status ironically, or maybe use the googlemaps app if I'm driving somewhere unfamiliar.
My laptop opens way more cloud opportunities. With it I'll probably send out my resume on gmail. Off to the cloud it goes. Then maybe scroll through tumblr and finally post a hilarious screen cap of a captcha I was forced to comply too. From there I'll log into the portal and submit a homework assignment. Maybe I'll upload a playlist I made to dropbox to share with the bored souls on the internet that want to listen to what I'm listening too. Maybe I'll cruise over to bandcamp to see if some of my favorite bands posted any more free download links or any new merch. If I'm super bored MAYBE I'll check out what other people are listening too on spotify.
So there you have it. My pictures, favorite songs, stupid screen caps, homework assignments, all up in the air floating in the Mindy cloud. The only difference between my cloud now and five years ago, are the specific websites. Five years ago I used AOL instead of gmail. I used Myspace instead of Facebook or Tumblr. Instead of bandcamp I used the Piratebay. Although back then I feel people were more of an observer to the internet than an actual participant. Applications today are more persuasive to your activity. Post your picture here, throw a video there, however you do it you MUST update everyone on what you are doing or you will fall behind.
I think the future of my cloud will age just the same. Perhaps I will use it for the same reasons but the websites will adapt with the passing years.
